NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting – Phase 2

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is a two-part course consisting of:

(1) an e-learning portion (completed online-in your own timeframe) and

(2) a hands-on practical portion conducted at a range under the guidance and supervision of an NRA-Certified Instructor. The course is intended for all adults regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation.

Some of the topics in the course include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, selecting and storing a pistol, the fundamentals of shooting, and pistol inspection and maintenance.

During the Phase 2 instructor-led-training portion of the course, FTI will validate comprehension and application of gun safety rules; range protocol; proper handling; loading and unloading procedures; application of pistol shooting fundamentals; stable shooting positions; live fire; and a final shooting qualification.

In order to complete this course, you must first go online to the NRA site, register, pay for ($60 to the NRA), and take the Phase 1 part of the NRA Basics Pistol course. The Phase 1 site link is   https://onlinetraining.nra.org

After successful completion of the Phase 1 part, you will receive a Personal Identification Number (PIN) with which to sign up for Phase 2. You will sign up for Phase 2 on the NRA website, under Firearm Training Institute. You will then complete Phase 2 with FTI. After successfully completing Phase 2, you will receive a completion certificate from FTI.
